Crab ScrapeDescription: The Smith Island Crab Scrape is a distinctly Chesapeake workboat, powered by a small inboard engine and ideally suited for crabbing the waters near Smith Island and Tangier Island. On board is a scrape device (special dredge, with steel frame and flexible mesh netting) that is slowly dragged through underwater eelgrass, a favorite crab habitat. After a few minutes, the scrape is hauled on board and the waterman culls the contents. He keeps the legal-size crabs, separating them into compartments (peelers, busters and soft crabs), then tosses the remainder back into the Bay. This cycle is repeated many times each day. Crab scrapes are spartan vessels, typically 24-32' in length with a deadrise hull, box stern and shallow draft. Most have an overhead canopy for protection from the scorching summertime sun.

Features: Wood construction, fully assembled, ready to display. Crab Scrape model includes anchor and line, bitts, cleats, navigation lights, gas tank (beer keg), crab compartments, engine box, controls, exhaust pipe, fire extinguisher, battery box with cables, tiller steering stick, rope steering set-up, transmission cover, stern seat, side washboard culling areas, radio box, canopy with four uprights, 3-blade prop and rudder. An accurate miniature scrape device with netting and line is included. Lastly, for accuracy, model includes miniature crabs. Boat is painted white, with sea mist green interior and copper/red bottom paint. Wooden stand is painted black.

Dimensions: Crab Scrape is 24.00” long X 8.25” wide X 9.75” high, when mounted on stand. Model is approx. 1:12 scale. Weight (boat and stand) is 3 lbs. Boat is removable from stand.
Draketail WorkboatDescription: Draketail workboats have a distinctive rounded stern with a "reverse rake" transom, a design partially based on torpedo boats and racing boats of the early 1900’s. Draketails (also called Dovetails) originated on Hoopers Island, MD and they were among the first workboats outfitted with a gasoline engine. Draketails also have a narrow beam, resulting in higher speeds than other workboats. This led to some of these vessels being used during the Prohibition Era for transporting alcohol! In the mid-1900’s, the Draketail design gave way to the more popular Box Stern design.

Features: Wood construction, fully assembled, ready to display. Draketail model includes anchor and chain, chocks, bitts, navigation lights, hand rails, horn, cabin windows and portholes, detailed cabin interior, varnished cabin door, fire extinguisher, life ring, engine box, exhaust pipe, dual control stations, rope steering set-up, tiller steering stick, gas tank and mounting bracket, 3-blade prop and rudder. Boat is painted white, with gray cockpit and copper/red bottom paint. Wooden stand is painted black.

Dimensions: Draketail is 32.00” long X 7.00” wide X 9.50” high, when mounted on stand. Model is approx. 1:12 scale. Weight (boat and stand) is 3.5 lbs. Boat is removable from stand.
Open Cockpit WorkboatDescription: The simple design of this open cockpit workboat allows her to be used for many different tasks, including of course crabbing, fishing, oystering and more. With a traditional Chesapeake Bay Deadrise hull, this boat is ideally suited to work the waters of the Bay. The small cabin area (sometimes called a dog house) allows protection from nasty weather, while the spacious cockpit provides room for all sorts of tools used by watermen (bushel baskets, crab traps, tongs, nets, barrels, lines and so on). Were you to select a workboat that best fits a one-style-fits-all-needs requirement, this would be the one.

Features: Wooden construction, fully assembled, ready to display. Engine box, dual control stations (including tiller steering in stern), antenna, lights, radar, horn, hand rails, portholes, windows, life ring, fire extinguisher, box stern, exhaust pipe, crab net and boat hook. Boat is painted white, with gray cockpit floor, copper/red bottom paint and wooden stand, painted black. DISPLAY CASES DO NOT COME WITH BOAT MODELS. ALL DISPLAY CASES ARE SOLD SEPARATELY.

Hard Top WorkboatDescription: This Chesapeake Bay Deadrise workboat is a versatile craft, used for crabbing, fishing and other seafood harvesting. The large cockpit area provides plenty of work space. This boat includes a small cabin with living space, which is useful on days when inclement weather is encountered. And the hard top above the cockpit creates shade, which is appreciated by watermen working on hot, sunny days. When handling crab traps (crab pots), the hard top is also useful as a storage location where traps can be stacked like blocks.

Features: Wooden construction, fully assembled, ready to display. Engine box, dual control stations (including tiller steering in stern), antenna, lights, radar, horn, hand rails, portholes, windows, life ring, fire extinguisher, box stern, varnished transom, exhaust pipe, crab net and boat hook. Skiff with Johnson OutboardDescription: Kids tend to pilot skiffs with outboards years before they are legally able to drive a car. Often, these motorized skiffs involve a boat just like ours. Our Skiff with Johnson is cross-planked, with closed gunwales, two seats, a paddle and crabbing accessories. The outboard motor is a very accurate miniature rendition of a 1957 Johnson 18 HP motor, with gas tank and "twin gas lines" plus period-correct decals. It is NOT the motor shown in these skiff photos. Instead, I will UPGRADE your order (at no charge) to my Version 2 motor, which is the red Johnson shown elsewhere on my website. And if you'd prefer the green 1955 Johnson 10 HP outboard, just order this skiff (part #SKJ), then immediately write to me (via email) and relay your green motor choice. I will then substitute the green Johnson instead of the red Johnson (no change to price).

Features: Wooden construction, fully assembled, ready to display. Wood paddle, anchor, anchor line, crab net (fabric mesh) and two bushel baskets. Skiff is painted white, with a white interior, copper/red bottom paint, red/white motor (removable) and black stand. DISPLAY CASES DO NOT COME WITH BOAT MODELS. DISPLAY CASES ARE SOLD SEPARATELY.

Dimensions: Skiff with Johnson is 16.00” long X 6.00” wide X 4.00” high (when mounted on stand). Model is approx. 1:12 scale. Boat is removable from stand.
Skiff with Evinrude OutboardDescription: Some kids (and adults) are fortunate to be able to advance from an oar-powered to an outboard-powered skiff. This, to many, is the equivalent of getting a nautical driver’s license. Our Skiff with Evinrude is cross-planked, with closed gunwales, two seats, a paddle and crabbing accessories. The outboard motor is a very accurate miniature rendition of a 1957 Evinrude 18 HP motor, with gas tank and "twin gas lines" plus period-correct decals. It is NOT the motor shown in these skiff photos. Instead, I will UPGRADE your order (at no charge) to my Version 2 motor, which is the blue Evinrude shown elsewhere on my website.

Skiff Features: Wooden construction, fully assembled, ready to display. Wood paddle, anchor, anchor line, crab net (fabric mesh) and two bushel baskets. Skiff with OarsDescription: If you have “messed about with boats”, chances are this has included time in an old wooden skiff. These utility boats are used for all sorts of purposes, including of course crabbing and fishing. A typical design includes a length of 14’ to 17’ and a flat bottom. These easy-to-use vessels have been enjoyed by kids (and adults) of many generations for Bay exploration adventures. Our Skiff is cross-planked, with slotted (open) gunwales and two seats. She comes complete with oars, oarlocks and crabbing accessories.

Round Stern, Soft Top WorkboatDescription: As sailing vessels gave way to powered vessels and the beam (width) of Chesapeake Deadrise workboats increased, elliptical sterns evolved into round sterns, such as the one on this model. Later designs evolved further, into box sterns. With round stern wooden boats, the stern was either “chunked” (created from layers of wood blocks) or “staved” (created from vertical planks of wood). The round stern workboat was both functional and attractive and hundreds of them were built in this style. Our model also includes a “canvas” soft top, stretched across beams and secured with lines, for use when watermen needed shade from the scorching sun.

Features: Wooden construction, fully assembled, ready to display. Engine box, dual control stations (including tiller steering in stern), culling table with legs, antenna, lights, horn, hand rails, soft top with tie-downs, cabin portholes, windows, life ring, fire extinguisher, round stern, exhaust pipe, crab net and boat hook. Boat is painted white, with gray cockpit floor, copper/red bottom paint and wooden stand, painted black. DISPLAY CASES DO NOT COME WITH BOAT MODELS. ALL DISPLAY CASES ARE SOLD SEPARATELY.

Dimensions: Soft Top Workboat is 34.00” long X 10.25” wide X 8.25” high (when mounted on stand). Antenna adds 6” to height. Model is approx. 1:12 scale. Boat is removable from stand.
