Lady WooesPerhaps the most elegant steam tug ever, was the statement made by one journalist whilst reporting on the LADY WOOES. As with the LADY JAN, the LADY WOOES is based on the Empire Tugs built on the River Humber during the war years of 1940-45. This very powerful twin screw steam tug, with RUST coloured GRP plated & riveted hull, & practical deck layout, makes this model an ideal regatta and tug-towing boat.
The Lady Wooes, with it's many fittings, winches, windlass, lifeboats & derricks, is a very 'full' & 'busy' looking craft, admired where ever 'she' goes.

Lady JanThe S.T. LADY JAN is one of the many single screw Warrior Class Empire tugs built on the River Humber during the war years of 1941-45, and is perhaps the best example of the Empire Ivy, Empire Bracken, Empire Dixie availabe to the modeller who with little research at the library, etc. can build anyone of the twenty seven different boats, including the famous Beamish, from this unique hull and plans.

Shown with the modifications carried out to her superstructure during the late 40s and early 50s, the classic looking steam tug LADY JAN , just as happy under live steam as with electric power, offers the modeller a fine regatta boat, an ideal work boat and a first class traditional Tug-Tower.

CanningOften (mistakenly) referred to as the last British steam tug, the single screw CANNING was built, on the Humber by Cochrans, for the Alexandra Towing Co. of Liverpool during the late 50s.
Though she was most definitely not the last steam tug to be built in Britain, that went to another tug in the 70s, she was built at a time that is now commonly known as... the end of the steam era.

Having a modern looking wheelhouse and bridge wings the design of the Canning and her contemporaries paved the way for the more familiar diesel tugs of the 60s and 70s, and possibly through to the mid 80s.

No scrapyard, or 'sold-abroad' for the CANNING, for after her long career accumulating in the South Wales ports, this lucky boat was retired into Swansea Maritime Museum where she is on permanent display.

RosegarthRosegarth - Applegarth - Aysgarth - Grassgarth - Bangarth or Thostlegarth, all sisterships from the same hull.

The Steam Tug ROSEGARTH was one of the several of the same design, built by Halls of Aberdeen and operated by REA Towing of Liverpool during the 50s and 60s.
Differing from her sisterships in the basic shape of the wheelhouse, together with minor details to the deck layout, the ROSEGARTH model is an ideal all-round boat lending itself to LIVE steam.

TID TugThe TID tug programme started in 1942 and by 1946 some 175 had been built, each numbered rather than named, which often deceives the researcher as the final numbered vessel belays the actual number built, for there was NO number 13 as Richard Dunston, the principle builders of the TIDs was a little superstitious.

The greater number of TIDs, 74ft x 17ft with a fully laden draught of 7ft, were built at Thorne.
Launched and taken down the canal to Keadby Lock and down the Trent into the Humber to Hull where the tugs awaited their final destination, mostly as deck-cargo to various parts of the world.

Whilst there is several commonly known explanations about the initials TID, it is reasonably safe to say that NO one really knows the real answer.

Lady TThis classic twin screw steam tug , built around the turn of the century (1900s) is typical of the sea-going boats of the North East of England shipyards. Classic lines, lots of detail, plenty of varnished woodwork and interesting deck fittings, makes the LADY T a very attractive model.

TollmanThe 1920 merger of several towing companies, mostly based around the Humber area, led to the formation of United Towing Ltd., who quickly established themselves as leading inshore, offshore and ocean-going tug operators.
Within a decade the expansion of the company led to an on-going 'new-build' programme, both to replace the existing tugs and to introduce new ones for the demand and growth of the fleet.... The Tollman was one of these 'specials'.

With the 'official' number of 162240, the Tollman was built in 1930 / 31 by Henry Scarr's of Hessle. Commissioned in latter 1931, with the fleet number 57, this medium sized, go-anywhere, do-anything tug served the company for more that thirty years.... From ship-handling to barge towing, the Tollman, with it's drop-down - swing-up funnel, was a regular sight on the tidal waters of the Humber / Trent / Ouse.

Euro GirlDesigned as a Multi-Task, Multi-purpose unit, this rather 'short' tug, a little under 80 feet / 24 metres l.o.a, is the pinnacle of brute-force & intelligence..................... Conventional stern drive tug, with steerable korts & the option of bow-thrusters; Pusher; Anchor Handler, with the option of several different cranes... and Fire Fighting capabilities, plus, inshore salvage work...... all within the scope of Euro - Girl.

With 'her' various winches, windlass, crane, fire monitors & salvage equipment, the Euro-Girl offers the modeller a compact, yet very 'full' tug.... fit for any occasion.

Model Details

Electric powered ..... Scale = 1:32 ( the same as all MMM tugs )

Working in the modeller's favour, the Euro-Girl as a new concept boat, offers several liveries, thus allowing 'free-license' of colour scheme for this compact 'full-of-fittings' tug, making the model the ideal choice for those 'Tuggers' who require a Powerful boat, that will 'do-the-stuff' as well as offering the ultimate in detail.

Working fire monitors & full working lights... the Euro-Girl is fitted with the 'New' regulation lights.... i.e. direction-of-travel, thus double the amount of normal lights, making an impressive array of illuminations.... plus, an intriguing array of winches & fittings giving an overall 'busy' appearence.

As with all Mobile Marine Models boats the Euro - Girl is available under the Budget Building System.

The Hull is Rust coloured, highly detailed GRP (glass fibre). and like all of our tug hulls, extra laminates in & around the 'stress' points, to give the strongest construction possible.

Ayton CrossThe Ayton Cross and her sistership, Ormesby Cross.

Completed by Astilleros Zamacona, Spain in 1999, these Wijsmuller 34m ASD (Aazimuthing Stern Drive) boats are powered by 2 x 2000hp engines, delivering a Bollard-Pull in excess of 55 tons.

Keeping with the tradition of Tees Towing (now Svitzer / Wijsmuller) these boats, retaining the word (name) Cross, after the Crossthwaite family, who owned and operated Tees Towing for many years, like there predecessors, were named after villages situated around the Tees area.

Originally 'stationed' on the Tees, both boats worked the River until 2005 when the Ayton was relocated to the Mersey, from where 'she' has travelled / operated in various parts of the globe.

Model Details

Electric powered ..... Scale = 1:32 ( the same as all MMM tugs )

Working in the modeller's favour, the Ayton and the Ormesby, like the rest of the fleet, have gone through several livery changes, thus allowing 'free-license' of colour scheme for this large, extra volume boat, making the model the ideal choice for those 'Tuggers' who require a Big Powerful boat, for this model is without a doubt, quite awesome!!

As with all Mobile Marine Models boats the Ayton / Ormesby is available under the Budget Building System.

The Hull is Rust coloured, highly detailed GRP (glass fibre). and like all of our tug hulls, extra laminates in & around the 'stress' points, to give the strongest construction possible.

PortgarthThe Mobile Marine Models PORTGARTH, like the Dutch built Damen ASD3110 prototype was launched in 1996 and has proven to be a thoughly good all-weather, all-round performer.

This rugged yet very attractive model has become a firm favourite with 'TUGGERS' of all ages, who require that 'little-bit-extra' from their boat.

At the start of the New Millennium, Wijsmuller Marine took over the company of Cory Towage and the PORTGARTH, on-station at Avonmouth, Bristol adopted the blue livery.

Detailed GRP 'Rust' coloured hull (scratch the paintwork and rust shows through) and like all Mobile Marine Models boats, is available under the BUDGET BUILDING SYSTEM.

OAL - 37 1/2" (950mm)
Beam - 12 1/4" (310mm)
NangeeNever before has so much thought gone into the selection of a model tug. The NANGEE is perhaps the most powerful little tug available to date.

The hull design, together with it's beam and draught, giving tremendous grip in the water, allows for the installation of even the largest (two) of drive motors.

Single or twin screw, the NANGEE, no mater which colour scheme you choose, is both an ideal regatta, and a very serious Tug-Towing boat.

EldergarthBuilt in 1981 by Mactay's of Birkenhead, the ELDERGARTH, the first of 5 new ASD tugs, entered service in October of that year, followed, in November, by her sistership the ROWANGARTH.

From November 1982 through to the summer of 1999 both boats divided their on-station time between the River Mersey and Cabinda, Africa.

At present, the ROWAN is on-station on the Tyne, whilst the ELDER, renamed the SHANNON, is stationed on the Clyde.

Model Details

The model Hull and full size plan, together with the Template Pack makes this boat perhaps the Best Ever model produced for Tug-Towing.

With just minor alterations to the superstructure the tugs YEWGARTH and OAKGARTH (still serving on the Mersey), can also be built.

Detailed GRP Rust coloured hull (scratch the paintwork and rust shows through) and like all of Mobile Marine Models boats is available under the BUDGET BUILDING SYSTEM.

OAL - 40" (1015mm)
Beam - 11" (280mm)
BrackengarthThe BRACKENGARTH, and sistership HOLLYGARTH, built by Appledore Shipyards, entered service during the latter 60's and served the Mersey for more than 25 years.

Owned and operated by Rea's Towing, later to be taken-over by Cory Towage Ltd, these two boats were single screw, in a steerable kort nozzle, driven by two main engines, which could be 'run' independently, through a central gearbox, thus giving the tug tremendous power.

Model Details

This large volume boat, perhaps the largest 1:32nd scale tug available, is a real workhorse.
With a choice of powerful 12 or 24 volt motors; 90 or 110mm THRUSTMASTER Power Kort and a choice of either THRUSTMASTER Heavy Duty or THRUSTMASTER SuperSmooth 8 propshaft, the BRACKEN is a powerhorse of unrivalled strength.

Norton CrossThese tugs, Eston Cross & Norton Cross, very distinctive in their appearance, are 2 of several built by Richard Dunstons (Hessle) Ltd, during the early to mid 80's, for the Tees Towing Company for operations on the River Tees.

As the 20th century moved into the new millennium and ownership of the fleet passed to Cory, then Wijsmuller, then Svitzer, the boats, with their unique qualities/handling characteristics have been dispersed to various ports of the UK, and now to be seen operating on the Mersey, Tyne, South Wales etc.

Known as Tractor-Tugs, because the propulsion units protrude from the bottom of the hull forward of midship, (aprox. below the wheelhouse) the Ralph Cross, first of the new fleet, was actually a stern drive tug driven by two engines through one prop and Kort nozzle, which is the propulsion system we at Mobile Marine Models advocate, as in this configuration the Norton has proved to be an ideal prototype for the modeller requiring a thoroughly rugged workhorse.

Model Details

The full size plan accompanying the Norton model GRP detailed hull show the 'Z' peller location with a detail alternative single screw conventional stern Kort nozzle drive system, thus giving you, the modeller, complete freedom of choice, and a model that steers perfectly backwards.

OAL - 34" (865mm)
Beam - 11" (280mm)
Gribbin HeadFollowing the success of the CAEDMON CROSS (1954) the sistership INGLEBY CROSS was built by the same shipyard of Scott and Sons, Bowling in 1955.
In October of that year she finished her sea-trials and the tug was handed-over to the new owners, Messre William Crosthwaite and Son, for ship handling at Middlesborough.

These boats served together for the next 13 years until the Ingleby was sold to Fowey Harbour Commissioners in June '68, and renamed the GRIBBIN HEAD.

Stan Tug 1906Built by the famous Dutch company Damen Shipyards Anglian Man and Furness Abbey are fine examples of their Stan Tug 1906.
At only 19 plus metres this very powerful twin screw tug delivers a Bollard Pull that years ago could only have been dreamed of.

Built in vast numbers, a 1906 can be found in most European Ports thus giving the modeller the ideal opportunity to pursue 'that' prototype.

ANGLIAN MAN (renamed Grey Test) is based at Felixstowe, FURNESS ABBEY operates from Barrow-in-Furness.

Stan Tug 1605Built by the famous Dutch tug builders, Damen Shipyards, the Stan Tug 1605 is the little brother to the 1906 (Anglian Man) making the model, at barely 20" long (surely), the smallest 1:32 scale working tug available.
Although small and compact the 1605 model, just like it's real life prototype, is a package full of power and energy, both pulling and pushing, and is ideal as a 'third' boat for any Tug-Towing Team.

SchoonerSeveral years ago the yacht hull was developed, purely as an experiment with no plans / drawings or a clear 'route' as to the finished project. As the first heull came out of the mould, a visitor stated, "it was just what he was looking for". Since then many, many hulls have been made for modellers 'wanting to do their own thing' from the individual through to clubs creating One Design Class racing.

Arran MailThe model of the famous West Coast of Scotland single hatch ship, The ARRAN MAIL. Built and entered service in the mid 1930's, this twin screw motor vessel carried cargo and passengers between the islands of West Scotland, and as the name suggests, was for many years, the mail-boat.
After a 'war-time' service the vessel retuned to civilian use, and was later sold to owners in the Channel Islands.

Unfortunately the 'ship' was lost, with all hands, at sea during the mid fifties.

Euro BoyAnother FIRST from Mobile Marine Models is the revolutionary designed hull of Euro-Boy. The multi-Optional, Multi-Functional, Multi-Choice Euro-Boy gives the modeller complete fredom to built THAT out-of-the-ordinary boat.
Based on the continental Rhine barges the Euro-Boy, with it's simple water ballasting, is big enough to create a good pull or push for Tug-Towing and yet light enough not to create problems carrying the model from the car to the pondside.

VariantSpecially designed for model Tug-Towing and named the Variant, because of the many variants that can be made from the basic hull, the VARIANT Lighter is 'in' scale, Pulling or Pushing, with any tug, of any scale.

Taking the basic shape of the old Wartime Transport 'VIC' concrete barges / lighters, and mixing in some modern model Tug-Towing technology, the VARIANT, so called because of the five options of finished appearances, is purpose built for the model 'TUGGER'.
With square-ended-swims, straight sides, removable water ballast and a strong GRP hull, the VARIANT, short and very lightweight, allows easy transportation to the lake with the added benefit of coupling any number of boats together to give any number of configurations to suit your particular 'tow'. (i.e. 6 boats; 2 abreast x 3 long approx. 8ft (2.5m) long and 1 1/2ft (0.5m) wide.

Margret & JoyThese models are typical of the 'pairs' of working narrowboats that travelled the vast network of canals throughout the heart of England in the heyday of river traffic.

The 'pair', usually consisted of the MOTORBOAT and the non-motorised boat known as the BUTTY. Whilst nostalgia conjures up memories of the 'pair' strapped side-by-side, (ideal for the stability of models), the norm appears to be that the motorboat towed the butty, tug style, in line astern.

Model Details

The MARGARET, (motorboat) and the JOY, (butty) with their 'stiff' detailed black coloured GRP hulls, come with full size plan, incorporating the templates for the bulkheads etc, offer the individual modeller the opportunity to customise the two boats to any of the now famous and historical canal companies.

NantuHaving completed a two year project of R & D / Testing, the Nantu model, at 29.5 inches long, is a very powerfull tug, having the 'right' grip in the water and ability to go-astern without 'dippin-in'.
Again another 'real' boat that has not been completed yet, nor have we had time to complete our model (hench no pics of the finished boat), but the Hull is available with the Full Size Plan, together with all the Running-Gear and Fittings.

Vic BoatOur VIC boat is a 1:32nd scale version of the 66.8ft x 18.4ft famous cargo craft. Whilst based on the early 20th century Scottish steam Puffers, the majority of the 66 footers launched during the WW2 war years of 1939 to 1945, were actually built in England by many smaller yards such as Pimblott of Northwich / Goole Shipbuilders, and not forgetting the yard of Richard Dunston of Thorne, where 40 plus of these boats were laid, with at least nine completed with oil ( diesel ) units.

Some modellers are surprised to find that, whilst the VICs are often referred to as Puffers , because of the sound of the (steam ) exhaust of the engine, many were actually fitted with oil ( diesel ) units.

As each Yard was, to a certain extent, when building, allowed free license , many variants of the superstructure appeared, especially as most of the boats were either modernised & / or went into private ownership.

We at Mobile Marine Models, with this kit, show three different options of superstructure on the Full size Plan and in the details of the Template Pack, thus giving the modeller the opportunity to choose / to customise / to actually build three different versions of the boat, all on one Hull, thus allowing you, the modeller, to sail a different boat every Sunday ! ..... there is even two options on the Cargo Hold cover.

As with all Mobile Marine Models boats the Vic Boat is available under the Budget Building System.

CAT 25A deviation from our normal range of Tugs & Work-boats, this Multi-Cat 25, built by Damens, is a MUST for the modeller who is looking for that-something-different, and the model, like all of our boats, is produced in the now famous Rust Coloured GRP hulls.

If ever there was a 'real' boat that lends itself to the modeller for ' Doing-their-own-thing ', then the Multi-Cat is the boat !...... This range of full size work boats, built by the famous Dutch company Damens, ( pronounced Dam - Ons ) vary in length / beam and deck layout., so as to meet the specific requirements of the new owner / customer, therefore you could possibly see two Cats of the same length, but with slightly different deck layouts..... This of course gives the Modeller complete freedom for customising.

We at Mobile Marine Models have chosen to base our model kit on the Cat 25 class, with perhaps the most common of superstructure / deck lay-outs.

As with all Mobile Marine Models boats the Multi-Cat 25 is available under the Budget Building System.
