History of Nao Victoria – Aramada De Magallanes In September 1519, Ferdinand Magellan set sail from Seville, Spain in a convoy consisting of 5 ships and a crew of 245 men. The aim was to reach the Spice Islands (Moluku Islands). In 1522, the Nao Victoria with 18 men on board was the only ship to return to Seville. It was commanded by Juan Sebastian Elcano, and it achieved the greatest naval feat of all times: the first ship to fully circumnavigate the globe. History of the Vanguard Paddle Tug The Vanguard Paddle tug boat was built in the Euskalduna shipyard of Bilbao in 1913 for the Sota and Aznar Company, The boat took part in the Matxitxako Battle during the Spanish Civil War. The Vanguard wooden paddle tug was built in 1841 by Thomas Ellis. It’s an earlier form of a wooden paddle tug with a heavily raked stem and tiller steering. The Tugs were used to tow sailing vessels in and out of the Tyne in North East England. They became a forerunner of the dedicated tugs that were to become a significant part of the scenery and history of the river Tyne for nearly 150 years. The benefits of the paddle tug were to allow larger vessels to navigate the river up to Newcastle and also to reduce the delays in port due to adverse wind and weather. | ATUNERO DEL CANTABRICO | It is the biggest of the classic wooden fishing vessels in the Cantabrian sea, with tonnage beetwen 100 and 200 Moor- son tons (1 Moorson ton = 2,83 m3), and length beetwen 24 to 30 m. In spite of its name, the tuna vessel is an incredibly versatile boat, capable of fishing many types of fish species using different styles of artisan fishing techniques. It had no limits within its operating range, being able to travel wherever fishing is allowed (Dakar, Newfoundland, Gran Sol waters,etc...). The crew use to be 15 or 16 men. | Hermione La Fayette - Frigate | Marquis de La Fayette's Frigate of Liberty On March 21, 1780, the young Marquis de La Fayette boards on the Hermione to reach America and fight alongside the American Independents. In 1997, under the aegis of the Hermione-La Fayette Association, at Rochefort, the reconstruction of the Hermione is started. Shipwrights, carpenters, blacksmiths, sail makers, riggers, marine sculptors and hundreds of volunteers have since worked under the public eyes until revive this ship.
